Finns i sjön (Go fish, go fish)
In this project I have chosen to work with byproducts from the fish industry.
The methods I have used are grounded in a long but nearly forgotten craft tradition.
My material of choice is based on a wish to highlight a problem in our marine ecosystem. It also includes the fascination of elements affecting our attitude towards a specific material. My wish is also to treasure a life once lived. I want to point out the importance of making the most of what we harvest. I want to give my refined material a voice.
The objects in this project have been given titles addressing some of all the threats to the marine ecosystem.
The name of the project in inspired by the traditional card "Finns i sjön". A game where you take what you need, of the variety you want, until the so-called lake is empty.
To choose jewelry as a method is, according to me, to challenge how refined something can be. Would you consider having fish waste around your neck?
